Media
& More
I find magazines and their sites
to be great resources for woodworking. These and links to other print,
television and electronic media are included in the 15 links below.

For inspiration, I look to
Fine Woodworking.
|
This Old House
and
Family Handyman
are great for home projects, often including woodworking. Definitely
geared toward the novice to average woodworker (like myself). No
hand-cut dovetails here, but plans are straightforward with attractive
results. Weekend Woodcrafts offers up the simplest plans that, not coincidentally, can often be
completed in a weekend.
|
ShopNotes,
Workbench and Woodsmith
are sister publications that I enjoy very much, with more of an emphasis on the
shop in the first two.
|
Popular Woodworking, Woodworker's Journal,
and
Wood are all helpful
resources through their excellent articles and they often have some
great plans. |
Woodshop News
is unique in both content and format. My biggest gripe is that its large
size doesn't fit into my magazine holders :-) This magazine offers
general shop and woodworking advice with an emphasis on the commercial
side of the business. |
OTHER
PUBLICATIONS |
Canadian
Home Workshop For an emphasis on the home workshop, Canadian-style. |
Canadian
Woodworking Magazine Given the vast expanse of forests they have up there,
no surprise there's a magazine dedicated to our neighbors to the North.
|
Fine
Homebuilding Even if you're not building homes for a living, there'll
always be something in here for the woodworker.
|
Popular
Mechanics As a kid, I loved the futuristic technology
articles, dreaming of that not-too-distant future of moon bases and killer
attack subs. As a homeowner, I can also appreciate the DIY articles on
everything from gardening to tools to furniture making. Dive in.
|
Tools
of the Trade Targeted toward the commercial woodworker, this site reflects
the magazine's emphasis on everything tools: reviews, tests,
chats. |
TELEVISION
SHOWS |
Home
Again With each week's show, Bob Villa takes us through every
DIY-er's dream project.
|
Home & Garden
Television Everything about your home, and your garden, on TV. |
The
New Yankee Workshop It's Norm 24/7, offering project plans, videos
and books for all of your learning needs. |
